“On the Road . . .”

Picture
The Smalls Institute for Music and Youth Leadership is “On the Road” in their quest for educating Lowcountry youth in the area of music and arts. This local non-profit organization has hit the streets in their Music Mobile. Much like a Bookmobile, this dynamic duo team of Co-founders, Nathaniel Smalls, Jr., CEO and Sherry Smalls, CFO make weekly visitations to various rural, inner-city, and title one areas in their mobile-music-classroom teaching piano, guitar and percussions to school-aged students.  To help fund this project they have a series of fundraisers scheduled.   Research has proven that music instruction is essential to children’s overall education because it improves their academic performance. The Smalls Institute for Music and Youth Leadership was established to ensure that children who are in need, and have the desire – particularly our low-income or disadvantaged children – have access to music, and the benefits and advantages that learning to play a musical instrument would give them. All donations are tax deductible. Listed below is a calendar of our upcoming fund-raising events.

"Caroling Around Town"

Picture
This holiday season, students at the Smalls Institute for Music and Youth Leadership, shared their holiday spirit with residents around their community. The Savannah House on James Island and the Midland Park Residential House in North Charleston, opened its doors this holiday season for students to play for residents as they joined in on some of their Christmas favorites. Residents patiently awaited the arrival of students and were surprised with home-baked cookies.  "It's always good to give back, especially during the holidays," said Sherry Smalls, CFO. After their caroling, the students enjoyed the annual Holiday Festival of Lights located at the James Island County Park. "We had a grand time and the kids enjoyed themselves," said Nathaniel Smalls Jr., CEO.
